2016 CASTAC Graduate Student Paper Prize

The Department of Sociology is pleased to announce that Kellie Owens has been awarded the Committee on the Anthropology of Science, Technology, and Computing at the American Anthropological Association's Graduate Student Paper Prize for her paper "Too Much of a Good Thing?: American Childbirth, Intentional Ignorance, and the Boundaries of Responsible Knowledge."

The Department of Sociology is pleased to announce that Atinuke (Tinu) Adediran has been awarded a Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship.  The Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship is awarded to individuals who, in the judgment of the reviewers, have demonstrated superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level, show promise of future achievement as scholars and teachers, and are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

"Investigating Conversions to Islam: Which Approaches in the Social Sciences?" Conference

Northwestern graduate student Juliette Galonnier co-organized a major international conference entitled "Investigating Conversions to Islam: Which Approaches in Social Sciences?" held on February 15th and 16th, 2016 at Sciences Po, in Paris, France. The bilingual (French and English) conference welcomed researchers and PhD students from a wide range of Western countries: France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, Latvia, the UK, the USA, Canada, and Australia.
