Research and Funding

The Sociology Department welcomes the new initiatives throughout the University to involve undergraduates in first-hand scholarship and primary research, career-building internships, and other funding opportunities.

Undergraduate Research at Northwestern

Northwestern offers many opportunities for undergraduate research funding. Sociology undergraduates frequently apply for the awards below, typically junior or senior year while carrying out research for a senior thesis.

Work Experience Opportunities

Sociology majors and minors have a variety of opportunities to gain hands-on work experience while in the program. Our students participate in a wide variety of programs that prepare them for further work in an academic setting or an industry career immediately after graduation:

External Research and Grant Resources

The following grants and research opportunities are based outside of Northwestern; however, undergraduates may find these sources helpful depending on their area of research or career interests.
