Nicole Van Cleve wins the ASA Distinguished Scholarly Book Award!

January 9, 2019

We are pleased to share the wonderful news that Nicole Van Cleve, who received a Ph.D. in our department in 2011, will be receiving the 2019 Distinguished Scholarly Book Award from the American Sociological Association. This is the association’s top book prize, for the best book in the discipline of sociology as a whole. Nicole’s award is for Crook County: Racism and Injustice in America's Largest Criminal Court (Stanford University Press, 2016), which has also garnered several other prizes. The book is based on Nicole’s dissertation; her committee was chaired by John Hagan and also included Nicki Beisel, Bob Nelson, Laura Beth Nielsen, and Malcolm Feeley.
